Fresh off a podium performance in the F4 program, Christian Weir is set for the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship finale this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Set to compete with the potent Turn 3 Motorsport program, Weir is aiming to finish the season strong and build momentum to a race winning and championship contending campaign in 2022.
“I am ready to get back behind the wheel of a USF car and get back with my Turn 3 Motorsport team,” explained Weir. “I have been racing a lot this season which is all part of the plan to gain experience and knowledge for a future program. I think we are at the point now where we can contend for race wins and podium results each race weekend, and I would like nothing more than to complete my 2021 USF2000 season with a victory.”
With his first ever Cooper Tires USF2000 event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course only a couple months ago, Weir came to grips with the USF-17 chassis and progressed through the weekend. Competing at the New Jersey Motorsports Park, Weir improved tremendously showing more poise, aggression, and race craft and in turn, catapulted up the order to earn a pair of top-ten results. Now, returning to a facility that he has already contested, Weir has his goals set high.
Weir continued, “I would love a race win or a podium result, but I need to be real and just try and do the best job I can. I am confident in the team, my equipment and my abilities so I am shooting to score my best result of the season.”
As a makeup race for the canceled INDYCAR event weekend in Toronto, the Road to Indy finale is a stand-alone event weekend that will feature all three rungs of the popular ladder program. On track activity on the 13-turn, 2.258-mile natural terrain road course will begin Saturday morning with practice before qualifying and the first wheel-to-wheel racing later that day. Sunday will be the home of qualifying two and race two on the weekend. Stay tuned to the Christian Weir social media pages for news, information, photos, and results from the event weekend.
